speaking of 'pipelines', my latest article about Ukraine and the crisis there has been added to the site today. No more are planned at the minute, but then again the Ukraine one was written on the spur of the moment...

It's been quite a while since we've had a new article, does anybody have on in the pipeline? If not then be on the lookout for subjects, we need your articles now more than ever!

I sent a new article to Rob yesterday, a sort of book review (although in truth it's more a disputation of one chapter than a full review) of Nick Cohen's Pretty Straight Guys. I've also done a minor revision of the National DK article I wrote back in the summer.

Golly, haven't I had the muse this week? I've written another article, this time offering my theory on who the men were who conspired to murder President John F. Kennedy (see the Rumours board for a thread where we can discuss it). I'm not sure when it can be put up, but be warned when it does arrive, it's by far the largest article yet.

The two new articles mentioned above are now up and the redraft will be replacing the old National DK at some point in the coming week.

The first new article in a long while will be on its way very soon. 'Debunking al-Qaeda' is my attempt to summarise and correct in as brief terms as possible the inaccuracies in the common myths about Islamic Fundamentalist terrorism. Hopefully should be with Rob & Critique by Thursday.

Brief as possible? That topic? I eagerly await your 10,000 word dissertation.

I've nearly finished it... and I'm afraid it's not far short of that.

I've decided to resurrect one of the articles I'd started on around Christmas last year that I abandoned through writers' block. Also Naselus is going to write another of his Long Johns style mock interviews fairly soon, and Rob has intimated that he'll be writing a new article of his own in due course.
Are there any other articles in the pipeline from anyone else though?

Right, well the latest interview is done, looking into how New Labour intend to deal with inner-city deprivation and crime. Hopefully Storm'll get it sent over to Rob this evening, and then it can get up on site by the end of the week.

Naselus' new article about crime prevention and the obsession with blaming Iran for everything is now up.
A little over a year ago, Gamgee was writing an article on teenagers' interest in politics. Did you abandon it, Gam? It'd be nice to get an article from a different source.

I'm writing a three-part article about the Gunpowder Treason for the GPS site. Would people be interested in seeing it on this site as well?

I believe I speak for the whole site in saying that we would be interested. There are a lot of myths surrounding the plot, such as the quality of the gunpowder and the size of the explosion etc, and some further knowledge about such a significant historical event will be useful.

Excellent. The first instalment is already written up, so I'll try and get that mailed to you tonight if my neighbour will let me borrow his PC again (which he probably won't because I've been using it a bit too often recently. )

I wonder, has anyone been writing any articles or the like that would be suitable for the site? It's really looking dated at the moment having not been updated in quite some time. Storm, what happened to the other two parts of your Gunpowder Plot trilogy?

Still in progress. I'm having to rewrite a big chunk of the second part because it includes theoretics that the head of the Gunpowder Plot Society has proven to me can't possibly be true.
I still think the articles page should be re-designed.

I still think the articles page should be re-designed. I think the same, I also feel the whole site should be re-designed but it's just finding people with the skills, time and inclination to actually do it. I have the latter but lack the former two.

I'm keen on the idea of a redesign in principle, as HTML looks very outdated now, but it may be too difficult to manage and update should we receive any new articles.

Can I please just make a gentle beg to everyone? Some of the regular forum members haven't offered up any ratings for articles, and some individual articles have not received any ratings at all. It's not compulsory of course, but the essays are meant to be an integral part of the site - they are the site in a way - and it would be a help if more feedback were offered.

I'm very pleased to announce that I've just posted the first edition of my column on the new site. I've called it "Aussie Rules" (after the national game), but this is just a placeholder for something better. Perhaps people can suggest to me a name for the column and the best will be chosen (and credit given).

Will give full feedback when I get home from work, but for now I will say a good solid start by Modeski.
We've elected to call the column, for the time being at least, Downs Under, to reflect that fact that Modeski's real name is Alec Downs. Gosh, the imagination and wit we have...

I'm liking Mod's work. Is it going to be a weekly thing?

Well, hopefully, but we're using the term 'semi-regular' for the column as he has to write it on his own.
Loved the crossed-perspective of the column, the Scotsman-In-A-Strange-Land view of things, especially the naive idea Aussies have about what constitutes 'high' petrol prices. The bit about 'Hate' books is exactly the sort of issue that this forum is interested in.
A fine start, with shrewdly-selected subject matter, and cuttingly written. Looking forward to more in the weeks to come.

Issue 2 of Downs Under is now up on the blog. Go to thegreatcritique.wordpress.com/2006/08/04/downs-under-2/ to read it. I had to do a few edits with the HTML to get the presentation right; we were getting all sorts of double-lines and missed italics first time out, but it looks okay now. Another clever, witty, cutting indictment of Aussie current affairs from Mod. At points, it reads healthily like a script for The Daily Show, at others like Have I Got News For You, which is exactly the type of approach we need for columns like this.

Woot! Thanks for fixing up the formatting for me, HStorm. I've still to have a look at the html behind the site, I'm mainly copying and pasting from word. Thanks for the positive feedback also.
