Naselus has a new column of his own starting up, which, in another dazzling display of cutting and impressive wit, we have titled Nas Of The World. {Insert laugh here.} This will only be an occasional column, but he will use it to keep us posted on political events in more obscure parts of the world, over which he keeps a roving eye. To see the first three parts of Nas Of The World, go to thegreatcritique.wordpress.com/tag/main-site/articles/the-nas-of-the-world/ and skim through the posts.

Nas, thanks for the new column, I enjoyed it. It appeals to the lazy side in all of us, with you doing the hard work of actually following the elections and events in far-off lands. I think we far too often forget that there's a whole slew of events going on all over the world, while we focus on our own countries and America, Iraq and the Middle East.
I find it noteworthy that Mexicans seem to be taking democracy a lot more serious than their neighbours to the north. If only more Americans were that engaged.
[Edit: I've made a few minor adjustments to this week's Downs Under to improve readability.]

More Nas up. There's a hell of a lot goes on it the world, obviously, and so I reckon that most weekdays you're going to be seeing at least one or two new posts up, so I'm not going to bother mentioning in here when I add another any more. Just check back.
Also, glad to see that my minimum wage article had such an impressive response. Thanks, guys.

Well, it's an easy one to respond to; it's an issue that's been making our blood boil for a long, long time.

I'm really impressed at how things are shaping up now, we've been far more productive in the past three weeks than in absolutely ages.

Heh, I love the way Mod's ferocious criticisms makes you feel perfectly entitled to grin smugly at the expense of the Australian 'well-to-do'.
Couple of points; -
First, Tony Abbott's position of, "not because it was religious, but because it was right" and, "political debate should turn on human values, not religious teaching" doesn't appear to be self-contradictory at all.
Second, the bit about production and demand is a very famous, sad, and above all frequent economic phenomenon, closely linked to the 'boom-and-bust' see-saw in Western countries throughout most of the twentieth century. Yes, it does happen, and yes it is ridiculous, but no one has yet thought up a very reliable way to contain it without direct price controls imposed by Governments.

Downs Under #6 is now up, and is a bit longer and better-written than last week's. Well, I hope so anyway.

Pardon my pommie ignorance, but could someone explain to me what 'mateship' is?

Well...it's, being a mate, mate. Edit: Very good question. Mateship is in fact the subject of another blog on The Age site. Here's the main article, and the link to read the comments left so far.

Um, to be fair, I thought ALL nations were the horrible lands where everyone thinks their neighbours suck. I mean, in the UK we all hate each other quite thoroughly, as I'm sure the twat who broke my nose can attest. And in the US they hate each other so much that 10,000 of them get shot every year. In France, hating people is practically a national sport; in Scotland doubly so.
Frankly, I don't doubt Australia is exactly the same. But the Age's writer seems to think the world is much lovelier than it is.

Hi guys,
Many apologies for the lack of Downs Under columns lately, I've had an extremely hectic few weeks, including computer lack-of-having. I may also have inadvertantly had a bottle of red wine and 5 bourbons tonight, so I doubt I will do much wriitng tonight.
expect to see me taking a more active role in the site in the next week.

I had to re-read the Terrorist Wheat board business before I could get it - it sounded like the sort of thing Nas would put on the made-up news thread!

Schwarzenegger showing he's the living proof that 'Liberal Republicans' still exist? I put it down to pure chance.
