Heya, I know the other thread got locked, but music is a pretty big thing for me, so I thought people might enjoy talking about it. Before you said about new bands being manufactered for money, but do you object to people listening to rock such as the sex pistols and guns and roses? They started ages ago and played in the true spirit of rock : for the enjoyment of playing itself, the girls, the booze and the general rowdiness. (fun huh?)

I'd object to being made to listen to the Sex Pistols, because their work was sh*t, but I wouldn't object to anyone else listening to it, poor suckers. Guns 'N Roses weren't so bad. Yes I much preferred it when the fun of making music was at least as important as the money... er when was that?

What's all this 'were' business? just because Axl Rose fired all the rest of his band nine years ago and hasn't released a record since doesn't mean they're finished. They're bloody not. They'll come back, I know they will. Won't they?

Somehow I doubt it Nas This was what I had to say on the subject back in April: I'm into 70s & 80s pop and the odd bit of rock, notably ABBA, Queen, Human League and also a lot of patriotic classical music. Modern music just doesn't suit me. Well, I am pleased to say that I have discovered during the course of the year that not all modern music is the spawn of the devil. In fact I now regularly listen to Alternative & Indie music on channels like VH2. However I haven't changed my tastes, merely broadened them. Basically don't let your tastes be forced into one catagory & don't write off a genre just because someone else tells you too!

Unless it's goth. No-one sensible likes goth. It really is just for people who want to look like eighteenth century gentleman.

Well, I wouldn't write off a genre having not heard enough examples of it. Like I say, I used to think almost all modern music was untouchable crap and I feel I missed out on a lot of music I've only just gained an appreciation of now. Whether or not you like and listen to a genre of music should be dependant on what you thought of it when you heard of it and not what your mate told you to listen to...

Also, i at first wrote off linkin park as I was told they're crap, but I've heard a lot of them and think they are quite good. Also, guns and roses aren't coming back, but theres always velevet Revolver! ;D

I know a lot of Goths, so perhaps I'm a little biased against them. However, Goth music is not to my taste (save the Sisters of Mercy, but they're not really Goth. They merely claim to have invented it. But the might be pure arrogance.).
And Guns and Roses haven't officially split up yet. Axl's the only remaining member of the original band, and he has kept us waiting nine long years for his next album, but they still tour. I saw them a couple of years back at Leeds.

In my opinion, everybody gets labelled as variant of rock these days. In terms of favourite bands, bring on Muse and Radiohead. Two brilliant gems.
