Me and Nas were browsing this site on Sunday and saw this cover of a very old issue of Action Comics; - Now let's put to one side the ludicrousness of a naive patriot adopted-American with more power than everyone else on Earth put together, at the height of the worst conflict in human history, expending that power on printing propaganda leaflets (although I admit he must have been able to print a lot more per hour than anyone else), when he could have busted the entire Japanese army with his little finger. I've always been one for distinguishing between the politically-incorrect and the genuinely offensive. But I can't decide which one this little number should go in. Today it would definitely be offensive, but then we're not at war with the Japanese these days. And although I should know better, I must admit the picture does make me smirk more than it should. Which category does it belong in? Offensive, non-PC, or just a very brainless giggle?

I've decided on balance that I have to be responsible and reasonable about this matter, and that I cannot hold back in any way when I must express my complete abhorrence when I see utterances of a racially-abusive nature. So I've voted non-PC, but okay really. * Here's some more... Not racist, but I imagine a few feminists will be in a huff when they see how superficial ( superficial, geddit? Geddit?) the Man of Steel is. Kind of reassuring to know that DC were aware all along of how cr*ppy Superman's 'disguise' was. Marvel Comics (or rather its immediate ancestor) got in on the racial slurs act during the war too... ...and the giant-lipped portrayal of the 'average' black American in this one genuinely turns my stomach; - I quite like this next one, even though the taste is still doubtful... And another nail in the coffin of WWII diplomacy; - Overall, whether they're offensive or not - and there's no doubt that several of them are - the ideas behind these comic covers are clearly atrociously stupid, both artistically and intellectually. So it does make me uncomfortable to think that these things were being sold to kids. * NOTE: This is not true. I only pretended to vote that way so as to needlessly annoy anyone who might have been offended by the pictures.

I thought that the final comic cover still IS USA diplomacy.
