Right, after reading that Will doesn't know much about the whole JFK thing, I thought I'd pop up a post to enlighten. I don't believe I know who killed JFK, but I don't believe LHO did it either, and I do have justifications. I also don't believe the mafia did it, since it was the wrong kind of hit altogether (the fashion in mafia hits at the time was all about up-close power play)
Oswald, first up, was shooting through a tree. He was using an outdated rifle with an uncalibrated scope. His angle was bad even without the tree. This could be believable, if LHO was a top-quality marksman, but he wasn't.
More troublingly, he fired three times in 5.6 seconds, and hit only with the second two shots. This just doesn't happen. Given no time to compensate for recoil, and of course firing through that tree, only his first shot should have been on target. Which makes it odd that it missed.
The first shot missed, the second passed through Kennedy and into Connally (the guy in front of him in the car), as has been shown by computer evidence. Connally is hit in the right of his back, the bullet emerges from his right front, passes through his right wrist, and then buries itself in his left thigh. I can accept that possibly Connally felt the need to sit in a very odd position to make this happen. Being shot at generally makes people contort in funny ways.
But here's the odd bit. Oswald wasn't on the right floor, both 60 seconds before and 90 seconds after the shooting. There are witnesses who saw him at both times. So Oswald, we are led to believe, was calmly eating his lunch on the second floor, then decided at just the right moment to dash up the 5 flights of stairs (in one minute), shoot three times at the president, wipe his finger prints from the gun (and yet leave a big palm print) before hiding it in the opposite corner, then charge down the five flights again and...
He buys himself a bottle of coke.
Which is damned calm since he must know that the police are about to seal off the building. He drinks his coke, finishes his lunch, and leaves THROUGH the police cordon, where upon he returns to his bedsit for an hour or so.
He leaves his bedsit approximately six minutes before he's alledged to have murdered Officer Tibbit of the Dallas PD, over a mile and a half away. Then it takes him another six minutes or so to reach the theater where he was arrested.
Now, if I'd just shot the premier of a country, I'd follow every law going, but LHO doesn't have my calm aplomb. Except when it comes to drinking coke moments after the murder, of course. He forgets completely to pay for a ticket, and, as is standard proceedure for a cinema usher, the girl on the door doesn't challenge him at all, but instead rings the police. Who almost ALL show up within three minutes. Thirty of them, to be precise.
So, if you want real police protection, open a cinema in Dallas.
But that's before we start going into the other odd things. Such as the fact the standard four-man SS team round the car, mysteriously, wasn't. The car was going slower than the standard twenty-miles an hour. There were no snipers watching the windows. The car would never have been allowed to take the slow corner. Oswald doesn't go for the easy shot while the president approaches, but instead decides to go for the one with a tree in the way. Kennedy's brains come out of his head THE WRONG DAMNED WAY. The two shots manage to hit about five targets, not all of them in LHO's firing line. One shot, fired almost simultaniously with the one that blasts Kennedy in the head, strikes near a passer-by, minding his own business. LHO's gun couldn't fire two shots at once.
Oswald didn't do the head shot. He missed the first and third, and may have missed the second, too. If he was actually firing at all, and since he just charged up, and then down, five flights of stairs (past two people who, for unknown reasons, didn't spot him) he was remarkably relaxed when he was spotted by a Dallas policeman. And remarkably accurate, too.
Anyone got any ideas? CIA? FBI? KGB? MI5? Any intials at all could have done it?
