Not sure of the validity of this, but I heard it on the radio at about one a.m. last night in a taxi. I'm putting it here in rumours until I get a more substantial report.
Apparently, somewhere in the region of 300 US fighter planes have flown over the Shetland Islands on a south-bound course, probably following a cross-pole route to the Gulf. This could be a preliminary stage of a US attack on Iran or Syria, using a pretext of Iraqi terrorism to justify it.
Any opinions, thoughts, etc?

Personally, I can't imagine the US is actually capable of another invasion at the moment. Iraq's still a massive mess, hurricanes have left most of the southern states in ruins, and their economy is reeling from five years of bad management. But then again, Bush doesn't seem to think prior to attacking, so it wouldn't suprise me that much.

I agree, although nothing would surprise me at this point. After a google search I can't find anything on this, so maybe it's nothing. On the other hand, at least your first post was timestamped so you will get some small consolation for being the first person to notice the impending invasion. Maybe the person on the radio was talking hypothetically? Or p'raps you were just off your cocking tits at the time.

Fair point. Next time I check up on rumours, I won't eat all the sunshine acid first.

It might have been a surgical strike (although why they'd choose that route to get there instead of just launching jets from Iraq is beyond me - I'm sure the jets would run out of fuel by the time they got to Greece), but there's no way that it's an invasion. The Yanks need to free up a lot of their Iraq-based troops to take the ground, otherwise air attacks will have limited and temporary effect.
But no, in any case there's no sign this has actually happened, as Mod says.
