This thread is utterly speculative of course, and it's basically just somewhere we can all log the many instances we are bound to hear over the next god-knows-how-many years that the devil's nastier older brother* has died.
The current rumour circulating from Saudi Arabia's secret service, which has now been leaked by French security agencies, is that Osama bin-Laden died of typhoid at the end of August.
Neither US or Pakistan agencies can confirm or deny that it's true. Although all that tells us is what we already know; that no one really knows exactly where he is, so they have no way of finding out.
*Must be. No he must be, Dubya says it's so.

Call me a cynic, but isn't this remarkably well-timed, given that the CIA has publicly given up its search for Bin Laden? Also, what better way to remove this thorn if Bush administration's paw? Bush has evaded questions about Bin Laden almost as adroitly as Bin Laden has evaded capture.
Now that he's gone, nobody needs question why the alleged mastermind of September 11th remains at large.

Now that he's gone, nobody needs question why the alleged mastermind of September 11th remains at large. There's no real indication he has gone, mind.
